Swinton Insurance is one of the largest insurance retailers in the UK, managing over three million insurance policies. It has over 300 branches across the United Kingdom and in excess of 4,000 employees. The company offers a range of insurance products from a panel of UK insurers covering car, bike, home, commercial, taxi and caravan insurance.

In 2010 Swinton began their biggest and most ambitious business and IT change programme in their 60 year history. Aimed at modernising their entire business platform, the goal was to consolidate key business processes such as new business transactions, customer contact, activity management, negotiation and quoting. This involved consolidating existing legacy systems into a flexible web platform built on open standards.

The delivery of Swinton’s new platform involved 13 development teams delivering around 3,000 user stories (elements of unique functionality). Teksidia helped build the innovative risk capture and quoting components – which represented the focal point of multiple, complex back-office processes and systems.

What We Learnt

We liked the focus on end users. We were allowed the opportunity to spend time in the high street branches and observe the staff as they dealt with customers on the phone and in person. We learnt that not making assumptions about how users interact with your application means you discover the unexpected and deliver an experience that really helps people.
